CHAPTER 1
"Stacey, I just want to know why you brought me here," I said, "I'm not even hungry today! Plus I have to get to a job interview soon!"
Ever since I graduated college, my life had been busy. All day, I was kicking it to the local job wanters, hunting for an open job! No longer could I depend on my parents. My life was on my own way now.
"I just didn't want you to be hungry," Stacey sighed, "You know, before the job interview. Come on, Bailey! Just sit down and talk to me! It's been a while since we've had a real girl talk chat."
"Somebody is feeling lonely," I laughed, "Stace, you don't have to worry. I'm not gonna change myself just because of a job."
"That's what you're doing right now!" Stacey exclaimed.
"Fine, fine," I sighed, "We'll grab a bite, have some girl talk, and then I'll head off."
"Thank you," Stacey proudly smiled, "I have my girl back, don't I? Now I don't have to force you to come to every place."
"Well, just because I said that, doesn't mean I'm not going to need time for work..." I reminded.
"I know, girlfriend," Stacey said, "But... Like... What if you don't even get the job, just for instance."
"There are tons more offerings, Stacey," I sighed, "I just have to take one step at a time. Now... Now I remember Cody again."
"Oh, poor you, Bailey! I thought you got your mind off him," Stacey said sympathetically, "I understand! The Jordan Sparks concert on the ship!"
"Yeah," I sobbed, "He put his arm around me during the concert, then kissed me."
"Well, girlfriend," Stacey said, "This is the real world. You might meet him again someday."
"I doubt it," I sighed, "I just can't believe I made that mistake of walking away! Plus, I thought we were so right for each other! And then I guess I just expected fate to put us back together that way. I didn't know I had to go tell him how I feel."
"Come on, Bails..." Stacey said.
"Bails... BAILS!" I sobbed, "Cody used to call me Bails! It was like... Like his sweet little pet name for me! Ugh! Why did he have to be such a sweet guy! Tell me, Stacey! TELL ME!"
"Hello," A guy said, "I work here, and I will be taking your order today. I'm David, and this is my friend, Cole. He also works here with me."
Cole had handsome blond hair, and a sweet smile. He actually shook my hand! Cole took a notepad from his pocket, and a pencil.
"What can I get you gorgeous ladies?" Cole asked.
Stacey and I both giggled.
I bet you don't know who Stacey is! Well, a little bit before I broke up with Cody, Stacey boarded the ship. She was a new student, so I showed her a bit around. It was also a way to get my mind off Cody. I basically hung out with her! We became like best friends! Stacey always got me away from the temptations of acting like Cody's girlfriend, and over thinking about him. She taught me how to treat him just as a friend, instead of acting like a girlfriend, or an enemy. Stacey told me I can act that way if I start dating him... Well, act like his girlfriend... Not be his enemy!
"Wow, you're so sweet, Cole," I said, "May I have a burger? Please make it veggie. I don't like to eat animals."
"And you're sweet to our animals," Cole laughed, "I got it down for the lady. David, you get the other nice lady's order. I'll just take this girl's."
David's eyes were locked on Stacey's.
"I would be glad to." David seemed really happy.
"Any drinks?" Cole asked, "Juice, milk, water, soda, wine?"
"I don't drink wine," I laughed, "And I don't want to spend anymore money."
"Don't be silly!" Cole laughed, "It's on the house from me! So, what can I get you to drink, NOW?"
"That was just TOO kind!" I exclaimed, "Oh, by the way, I'm Bailey. I'll just take water. After you get my order, can you come sit with me?"
"My boss would kill me." Cole replied, "Sitting on my shift."
I smiled a bit, "Tell him the customer ordered a Cole."
Cole giggled and said, "Sure. But only if he asks!"
"I dare you," I laughed back, "You're sweet."
"Thanks, you, too," Cole said, "I'll get your order faster than everyone else's. Just because. Because. That's why."
"Oh, wow," I smiled, "Why are you being nice to me?"
Cole shrugged, "Just for the lady I like," He winked, "When I come over to this table, can you give me your number? I'll give you mine."
"It would be my pleasure." I smiled sweetly at him.
Cole was amazing! If only Cody were to know that I had moved on to a new guy. Oh, then he would come running back to me! But I'm not going to use Cole. I'm actually going to love him like I loved some other certain guys. That's because, I do love Cole. He's the sweetest gentleman I've ever met!
"So, Stacey..." I sighed, "Did you talk a bit with David over there?" I had a little grin on my face, "Just wondering."
"Yeah, I did talk with him," Stacey smiled, "He's so sweet and cute! How about you and Cole? I'm also just wondering."
"He wants me to give him my number!" I exclaimed, "Plus, he's going to sit with us! Well, me. Right next to me!"
"David said he is going to come here to sit with us, too!" Stacey exclaimed, and then had a smile on her face, "It's a date, Bailey! A double date! You with Cole, me with David!"
"How do we know that they like us?" I asked.
"Well," Stacey rolled her eyes, "Do they even SEEM like they treat any other customer like they just treated us? Now did they, Bailey?"
"No," I sighed, "I guess they are sweet guys. Plus, Cole is way sweeter than Cody was! I can't believe how you can just find love in a diner!"
"Wait a second..." Stacey gasped, "What about your interview! You can't stay hours and hours chatting with Cole now!"
"You're right," I sighed, "I guess it's too good to be true."
"Now Bailey," Stacey said, "You don't say that. You're getting Cole's number! Call him, ask him out! Just talk a bit with Cole as you eat, and then head off to the interview."
"Well, I hope I don't break his heart when I leave for the interview," I said, "Thanks, Stacey. You always have the right words to say for me. You're a true friend."
"Well," Stacey smiled, "That's what friends do!"
All of a sudden, Cole walked up to our table, with a big smile on his face. He gently set the sandwich platter down. He slid over next to me, and put his arm around me.
"So, Bailey," Cole smiled, "I'll give you a piece of my notepad paper. Write your number down for me."
"Okay..." I said, lost in his eyes.
"Hey, Cole," Stacey said, "Do you happen to know where David is?"
"I do," Cole replied, "He's getting your lunch for you. Don't worry, David is almost done."
"Thanks." Stacey smiled.
CHAPTER 2
"Hello, ladies," David smiled, "Stacey... May I sit here with you? It's just like I promised."
"No!" Stacey yelled, "I'm just joking. I really want you to sit here with me. How could I ever dare to say no?"
"Wow," David laughed, "You're really funny, Stacey."
"Thanks," Stacey smiled, "You are, too."
"So, Bailey, how is that sandwich?" Cole asked, "I made it myself."
"Oh, I haven't tried it yet," I replied, "But I will in a second. Let me just reply to this text I got."
Darren Saursenson:
Bailey! Just the girl I needed to talk to! I'm glad your phone is on now. You see, our boss is really angry. He's waiting for you. You got 30 minutes. He wanted you to be here early, but don't sweat it. By the way, our boss doesn't know who you are. Be sure to introduce yourself. That means he doesn't know your name. Good loiks! Bye!
Bailey Pickett:
Thanks, Darren. I just need to finish eating lunch, and say goodbye to my boyfriend. Anyways, tell the boss guy to stop being such an ass! Why should I be there like 30 minutes early? Anyways, I really appreciate you texting me! Bye, thanks again!
I finally took a bite of Cole's sandwich. My mouth was watering for more. I held on to him tightly. Oh, this tasted amazing!
"Oh my gosh, Cole!" I exclaimed, "This tastes AMAZING!"
"Thanks," Cole said, "I tried my best to make it so tasty for the Bailey girl. Why don't you write your number down for me. Please?"
"Sure," I replied, "May I have that notepad paper you were talking about. I'd rather not write it on your hand."
"Well, as long as it would be your number," Cole said, "I wouldn't care. But here."
He handed me a small, torn, lined, piece of paper. He also handed me his pencil. I slowly wrote my name. I made sure it was extra neat, to be sure Cole wouldn't mistake any number for any other.
"Can I have yours, Cole?" I asked.
"Yeah," Cole replied, "I'll get a bit of paper for myself. Hey, can I have my pencil back? I need to write it, obviously."
I nodded and handed him the skinny, yellow pencil. He smiled and wrote his number quickly. But, it was very neat.
"We can talk while I eat," I said, "I would enjoy that."
I took a sip of my water. After swallowing, I took a bite of Cole's sandwich. I offered him bites of the sandwich. We talked, and it was so enjoyable! I see Stacey had the same amount of fun with David. But I think I might just have had a little more.
"Wow, Cole," I smiled, "Today has just been so much fun for me!"
Cole smiled. I closed my eyes and I knew I was leaning in to kiss him. I opened mine just a bit to see Cole still smiling, but leaning in. And his eyes were closed, too. We were almost to the kiss, when my phone made a sound.
"I'm sorry! I have a text!" I exclaimed, "Hold on."
Cole's face looked sad, but he nodded.
Darren Saurensen:
Your welcome, Bailey. But, you need to leave for the interview NOW! Boss is expecting you in like 5 minutes now! There's no time to waste! Finish your sandwich and say bye! NO! You don't have time for that! Just rush!
Bailey Pickett:
Fine.
"I'm sorry, Cole!" I cried, "I have to go!"
Stacey's eyes were shocked. So were David and Cole's. I overheard them after I left. I felt so guilty.
"Maybe she didn't like you," David sighed, "There are other girls."
"David," Cole whispered loudly, "I just don't know where I went wrong! I thought she liked me!"
"After her job interview," Stacey said, "I'll get to the bottom of it. I'm her best friend, so I can handle ANY Bailey situations. You just hand tight, Cole."
"Thanks, Stacey." Cole said in a sad tone.
