Chapter 1: Play Ball
(Moose's Point of View)
Scout, Annie, Jimmy and a lot of our other friends were all playing baseball.
That is except the stuck up girl, Piper.
"Alright, Jimmy. I'm going to pitch it to you nice and slow." Scout taunted.
Jimmy scowled at Scout.
"Scout, play nice." I said.
Scout smirked.
Scout then rubbed his hands and slapped the ball .upon his knees and pitched.
Jimmy swung and missed.
"Loser." Scout muttered.
Jimmy whacked the bat on the ground and said, "I'm ready, hit me again."
"Strike one!" Justin Bounen yelled.
"Stop rubbing it in I bet you'd get a strike at least once!" Jimmy whined.
Theresa ran to Jimmy.
"JIMMY!" Theresa yelled.
"Not now!" Jimmy yelled, "I'm playing ball."
"Jim-mee! I don't want to watch Rocky! I want to play with Janet!" Theresa whined.
I furiously looked at Theresa.
"Stop!" Theresa yelled at me.
"Look after him. I missed baseball yesterday to watch Rocky!" Jimmy said.
Theresa ran away holding Rocky. She had a furious expression on her face.
Scout pitched twice again and Jimmy struck out.
Jimmy slammed the bat on the ground in anger as Scout laughed just loud enough for Jimmy to hear. I knew Scout did that on purpose. The problem is Scout doesn't like Jimmy because Scout thinks Jimmy is my best friend and he isn't!
But honestly, I do like Scout much better, yet I don't like his anger. Neither for Jimmy in baseball. Scout is my type more. Not saying I don't like Jimmy.
"Change sides." Scout said.
The batters ran to the outfield.
Scout and me pushed through trying to get first. Obviously, Scout is so fast he made it first.
Jimmy was pitching.
"Hah. Thanks to Jimmy this might as well be too easy." Scout whispered to me.
I didn't really like it when Scout made fun of Jimmy.
Jimmy and I are also friends. Why can't Scout just like Jim, too?
Jimmy tried his best to pitch fast, but it was slow.
Scout whacked the ball and it flew really far.
He ran past 3 bases before Jackson could get it.
"Nice one, Scout." Jackson said.
Scout grinned.
I was batting next. I grabbed the bat.
Jimmy pitched his hardest.
I hit it way farther than Scout's. I'm pretty proud of that.
I had enough stamina to run past just ALL FOUR bases!
I noticed Piper was watching me bat from the fence.
Me and Scout both hit base 4. It was pretty cool. Yet, I did MUCH better than Scout. And you wouldn't hear that from me. Scout usually is better. It's not my intention to brag, but I feel I should be really proud!
Scout looked kind of upset that I hit it.
"Nice one." He said trying to sound happy for me.
Piper ran back away from the fence thinking nobody saw her. I guess I'm the only one who paid attention and saw her. That's also cool because I was RUNNING while I saw her.
Chapter 2:You like her
Annie pat my head while we were leaving.
Our team won by so many points.
"Hey, do you like Piper?" Annie asked.
My face grew hot.
"N_no." I replied.
"Then why were you eying her when you were running? There's so much evidence that you like her."
"I do not, Annie." I said.
Scout was laughing.
"Oh, poor Moose. You don't know that Piper might as well be crazy for you." Scout said.
"Why?" I asked.
"Cause', you're so madly in love with her!" Scout laughed.
My face grew hotter.
The truth is, I do kinda like Piper. If you know what I mean. I mean, sure, Piper is bossy and mean sometimes. But she's cute. And if you get to know her, she's pretty cool. Except we all know that Piper likes SCOUT. Honestly, I'm pretty jealous of Scout. The weird part is Scout thinks Piper likes me, but Piper likes HIM!
So does Annie.
"Just change the subject. He doesn't like talking about his girlfriend." Annie said.
"She's not my girlfriend!" I yelled.
"Whatever ya' say Moosey." Scout said and rubbed my hair like I was a little boy.
Annie and Scout were laughing as they walked through the steel fence.
Chapter 3: Piper's gotta thing for him
Am I the only one who knows Piper isn't in love with me?
I KNOW Scout will never find out unless he just kisses Piper.
More likely, I tell him.
But why would I do that? Then Scout might start really liking Piper. Right now he thinks I have a thing for her!
Well, I'll just keep away from that subject.
I met up with Piper after lunch.
"Hi." She said.
"Hi." I said.
I guess I'm kind of nervous in front of her now.
Because if anyone even catches us talking they'll swirl us and spread rumors that we're dating.
We sat down on a wooden bench.
"Well, you know about how I like Scout." Piper said.
I nodded.
"Well, everyone thinks I like you. But I don't." She said softly.
"I_I know. It's annoying when people do that." I said.
"Well, Moose. Even Scout doesn't know that I like him. It's... odd." She said.
Chapter 4: Something's on your mind
"Piper. Something's bothering you." I said.
"Yes, about that." She lied.
"No, something more." I said.
"No!" She yelled.
"I can tell when you lie." I said.
I knew it, she was lying.
How?
She put her face on my shoulder and began to cry.
Nobody was around, so I just hugged her.
"What's on your mind?" I asked softly.
"My, my Mom is really sick..." Piper cried.
Oh my god! Warden Williams' wife is sick? What if she dies!
I don't want to make Piper anymore upset than she is right now.
"Is she okay?" I asked and put my hand on her shoulder.
"Oh my god. No! She has cancer!!!" Piper exclaimed.
"Cancer?" I restated.
"I don't like talking about how she might die." Piper said and cried on me again.
When she stopped crying, her eyes were red.
Her lips were 4 inches from mine.
Do I kiss her?
I was going to, but I refused myself from.
WHY DID I MISS MY CHANCE?
An upset girl that I like was the perfect chance to kiss her!
Chapter 5: Chances Rebound
I looked down at the ground. The silence was killing me to kiss her!
The sweat on my face was dripping.
I wiped the sweat.
Then I itched my neck.
I didn't look up at Piper again after the chance I had to kiss her.
BUT FAILED.
Piper came close to me and kissed me before I knew it,
I think we were kissing for 10 minutes!
I felt like someone might of saw us kissing because I saw a flash of light about 10 seconds before me and Piper stopped kissing.
I itched my arm and my blue shirt sagged.
I bugged my eyes out.
"I thought you liked Scout." I said.
"Moose, you're an amazing friend. I mean, everybody thinks I'm just stuck up and mean. They never care about me. They wouldn't care if my Mom died. Only me and my Dad would probably." Piper explained.
"But how about Scout." I said.
"Moose, I don't care a damn about Scout if he doesn't support me at a time like this! You're the only guy who's ever kept standing no matter how mean I could get. Scout, he sometimes runs away from me. That's because I scowl at him and annoy him so much." Piper said.
My lips were dry.
She kissed me.
I didn't kiss her, she kissed ME!
"You might not know but Scout sometimes talks crap about how annoying you are." I said.
That was the truth. Scout talked so much crap about people. But he's never talked more crap about anyone than Piper. That's what I know.
"Every boy I ever liked usually talks some damn crap about me. Except you." She said.
Chapter 6: They Know
Annie was laughing when I was walking back.
"What the hell are you laughing about?" I asked annoyed of her.
"Geez. You and Piper." Annie replied.
"What about?" I asked nervously.
"You kissed, stupid." Annie said.
"No we didn't." I lied.
Annie rolled her eyes.
"I already told Scout. And don't lie. I know. I saw you. I have proof, a picture." Annie said.
"That's what that flash was." I said.
"Ha! You just admit it!" Annie bragged.
Scout walked over to me and Annie.
He was clapping his hands.
"Bravo, little man. You got your first kiss." Scout said roughing up my hair again.
"God, Scout. I kissed her. That's not even important." I said.
"What eves, man. It's her first kiss, too. You're the only guy who she looks up to." Scout laughed.
